What You Need to Know Before You Decide
Every patient who contacts us has done their research. What they are looking for — beyond the clinical facts — is someone they can trust to be honest about what this treatment involves, what it can achieve, and what it cannot. This page is written to give you exactly that.
Medical Center Klinik's cardiology and cardiac surgery programme is delivered in a JCI-accredited tertiary cardiac centre equipped with full catheterisation laboratory capability, cardiac surgery theatres, intensive care monitoring, and a 24-hour interventional cardiology on-call service.
The programme includes advanced non-invasive diagnostics (echocardiography, stress echocardiography, cardiac MRI, CT coronary angiography), invasive diagnostics (coronary angiography, electrophysiology study), interventional procedures (coronary stenting and angioplasty, TAVI — transcatheter aortic valve implantation, MitraClip, ASD/PFO closure), cardiac rhythm management (pacemaker and ICD implantation, ablation for atrial fibrillation), and cardiac surgery (coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair and replacement, aortic surgery).
Our partner cardiac surgical team is board-certified and outcomes are audited against EuroSCORE benchmarks and European Society of Cardiology standards. International patients with complex cardiac conditions are frequently referred by cardiologists in their home countries who recognise the quality of care available in Istanbul.
Who This Treatment Is — and Is Not — For
Our medical team will give you an honest assessment during your free consultation. We do not recommend treatment that is not clinically appropriate — ever. Here is the general candidacy picture for this procedure.
Our coordinated cardiology programme serves patients with established or suspected coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, cardiac arrhythmias, structural heart conditions, and those requiring cardiac surgery. International patients frequently present for second opinions on proposed interventions, or pursue treatment in Istanbul following unacceptably long waiting times in their home country.
All patients undergo a thorough cardiac assessment before any invasive procedure is performed. Our partner clinical team will advise clearly if a condition is more appropriately managed non-invasively, or if a proposed procedure is not indicated based on current evidence.
What Happens, and When
From your first message to your final follow-up, every step is managed by your dedicated coordinator. You will never be passed between departments, left without an answer, or surprised by something you were not told to expect. Here is exactly what the process looks like.
Initial cardiology consultation
existing investigations reviewed; clinical history taken; physical examination performed
Diagnostic workup
ECG, echocardiography, stress test, CT coronary angiography, or invasive angiography as indicated
Multidisciplinary heart team discussion for complex cases
cardiologist, cardiac surgeon, and anaesthesiologist review and agree on the optimal treatment approach
Procedure planning and informed consent
risks, benefits, alternatives, and expected outcomes explained in detail
Procedure performed in catheterisation laboratory or cardiac theatre as appropriate
Intensive care or high-dependency monitoring post-procedure
duration determined by clinical status
Cardiac rehabilitation assessment and initiation
exercise prescription and risk factor management
Discharge with comprehensive cardiac summary, medication plan, and follow-up schedule; remote cardiology review at 6 weeks
What to Expect After Treatment
Recovery is not something that happens to you — it is something you and your medical team manage together. Our aftercare programme continues long after you leave Istanbul, with scheduled follow-up consultations, direct access to your clinical team, and full documentation for your GP at home.
Recovery from cardiac catheterisation procedures (coronary angiography, stenting) is typically rapid — most patients are mobile the following day and are discharged within 24–48 hours. Driving and strenuous activity are restricted for 1–2 weeks.
Recovery from open cardiac surgery (CABG, valve surgery) requires a longer inpatient stay of 5–7 days, followed by 4–6 weeks of restricted activity. Cardiac rehabilitation — a structured programme of supervised exercise and risk factor management — is initiated before discharge and continued remotely for 12 weeks.
Everything in Your Package — No Hidden Costs
Every item below is confirmed in writing before you commit. There are no surprise charges, no optional extras added at the last moment, and no administrative fees. The price we quote is the price you pay.
How Much Does This Cost?
We provide a personalised cost breakdown after your free consultation — once we have reviewed your specific case, medical history, and treatment goals. There is no commitment required to receive a quote, and no pressure to proceed.
International patients typically pay significantly less than equivalent treatment in the UK, Germany, or the United States — with no compromise on clinical quality, materials, or aftercare standards.

These are the questions our international patient team answers every day. If yours is not listed here, reach out directly — we respond within 24 hours, without obligation.
Can I travel to Istanbul if I have a cardiac condition?
Fitness to fly with a cardiac condition depends on the specific diagnosis and clinical stability. Our partner cardiology team can review your records in advance and advise on travel safety. For patients with unstable conditions, we can coordinate emergency admission directly from the airport if clinically required.
What is TAVI and who is it suitable for?
TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) is a minimally invasive procedure to replace a diseased aortic valve without open chest surgery. It is performed via catheter, typically through the femoral artery. TAVI is appropriate for patients with severe aortic stenosis who are at high or intermediate risk for conventional open valve replacement surgery.
How do your cardiac surgery outcomes compare internationally?
Our partner facility's cardiac surgical outcomes are benchmarked against EuroSCORE II — the European standard risk prediction model for cardiac surgery mortality — and are reviewed regularly by their quality assurance team. Outcome data is shared transparently with patients and referring physicians.
What cardiac follow-up is available after I return home?
All cardiac patients are enrolled in a remote follow-up programme. A 6-week post-procedure video consultation with the treating cardiologist or surgeon is standard. ECG, blood test results, and echo findings from your home cardiologist can be transmitted to our team for review. Urgent cardiology advice is available via our 24-hour clinical line for the first 30 days post-discharge.
Ready to Take the First Step?
Your free consultation is a conversation — not a commitment. Tell us about your situation, and our medical team will give you an honest assessment of whether this treatment is right for you, what to expect, and what it will cost. We respond within 24 hours — 7 days a week.
